What is the difference between DDR2 DDR3 and DDR4 RAM?

The difference between the DDR RAM’s

The speed range of DDR2 starts from 400 MHz, 800 MHz, and 1066 MHz. The transfer rates start from 3.2GB/s to 6.4 GB/s, to 8.5 GB/s.
DDR3 is the improved version of DDR2 with improvements in power consumption and bandwidth. The theoretical bandwidths of DDR3 range from 6.4 GB/s to 17 GB/s. The speeds of DDR3 start from 800 MHz, to 1600 MHz, to 2133 MHz. The speeds range from 6.4GB/s to 12.8 GB/s, to 17 GB/s.
DDR4 is the fourth generation of SDRAM is the latest, fastest and most commonly used in all computers today; DDR4 is improved over DDR3 due to enhanced data transfer bandwidth and even lower power usage. DDR4 is crafted to work between 667 MHz to 1.6 GHz and has a data transfer range from 17GB to 21.3GB per second.
The DDR version of RAM has become obsolete, and it is not being produced anymore in large scale. The DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 are the once that are the preferred versions that perform much better.
Now, the clock rates of the DDR category of RAM’s are usually theoretical, and the memory cannot work at those speeds. For instance, a DDR2-1066 RAM that is installed in a computer can access only the memory subsystem that is at 400 MHz and not at 533 MHz. This occurs because the memory controller is the one that provides the clock signals. The memory controller is located out of the RAM area, in the chip on the north bridge from the motherboard, or embedded on the CPU side; it all depends on the type of CPU system you have.
